Small Smile

I had never experienced death before. That night, when I walked into Jon Schwartz’s room and saw him lying on his bed crying, I was confronted with a new and terrible feeling. I had lost little known relatives before, but this was the first time I had ever been confronted with the loss of someone I really cared about. It was terrible. A little over a year later, my mom called to tell me that my father had passed away in his sleep. It had been a while since I felt that feeling, but I remembered it the instant it hit. Thursday is the 6 month anniversary of my father’s death. Comfort and pleasant thoughts have been rare, but every once in a while I imagine Kara and my father hanging out, talking and becoming friends. I crack a small smile just thinking about it.
