pinwheels

Kara's memorial service in June was amazing. How perfect, I thought, for each of us to take a pinwheel and find a spot where it could whirl away in the wind. Mine is standing in the soil of a potted tree on my balcony...the tree was a wedding gift from a very dear friend. I love having Kara's pinwheel there. It spins away happily...just like Kara. It makes me smile to remember how she'd grin at me on windy days and say "I'll probably have go out there and rescue a bunch of campers today"...exactly like her brother used to do. I remember watching Kara and Chris windsurfing out there on days when the wind was so strong we could see white on the water, crossing back and forth, leaning way, way, back trying to dip their heads. Man! You guys were such fun to watch out on the lake! And I always thought it was so beautiful to see a brother and sister with such an amazingly strong and intimate relationship. So now, when I see my pinwheel turning, I think of Kara and Chris and the rest of the Hood family, and my heart goes out to you all. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you always... Megan Carroll
