Clean-Up Day

I had heard all summer just how fun clean-up day at camp was. Well somehow we all made it back in time for our 9am meeting and stood in the kitchen of the big house waiting to be told what our jobs would be. I remember half hiding behind Kara because she had told me that somehow she always managed to get a fun job...as it turns out it wasn't the job that was fun...it was the fact that she was doing it that made it fun. Fun or not, Kara and I got the assignment of cleaning and organizing Roanoke. I don't think i'll ever have the oppertunity to do a job that was more enjoyable than sorting through old smelly costumes. We had just gotten the staff mix and of course wanted to listen to it so Kara drove her jeep up and parked right in front of Roanoke. We worked for a little bit...nothing too stressful. Kara decided that the best way to sort everything was to just throw it all out onto the lawn and go from there. So that's exactly what we did. Then we decided that all that hard work deserved a break and went to lay on the hood of her jeep and listen to the tape. We spent over an hour talking about the summer, listening to the songs that held countless memories, and laughing. Just as "Walking on Sunshine" came on it started to rain...and not just rain, but pour. Ummm.. we were in trouble...all the costumes were still laying on the lawn, now getting soaked. Kara just started throwing them all back into Roanoke and told me to do the same. It took a lot less time to get them back in, thats for sure. Needless to say that the costume room was still a mess at the beginning of the next summer. I've never had a better clean up day than that one. <>< Christine
