Jena Construction | |
I have an Uncle who owned a construction company out in Staten Island when I was a kid. Every time I would go see him, he would load me up with a whole bunch of t-shirts and sweatshirts with the logo “Jena Construction” to take home. Every summer at Camp, Kara would inevitable go home with multiple items of my clothing and typically it was whatever I was most fond of. I remember showing Kara one of my uncle’s t-shirts in the beginning of the summer one year. I said something like “this is the best shirt IN THE WORLD,” to which Kara would reply something like “that shirt is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.” The shirt disappeared early in the summer and I never really though much about it again. It wasn’t until the fall, over a year or so later, that the shirt suddenly reappeared as Kara’s new favorite t-shirt. I asked Kara where she acquired her "new" shirt and she was a little hazy at first. Then when I said it was my shirt, she began to insist that a friend gave it to her - Her friend Jena, who ironically had the same first name as my Uncle’s last name, and who also owned her own construction company. For some reason, I never met this Jena friend of Kara’s; I also never got my shirt back. Kara would wear it all the time and we would always laugh when I saw her in it; Kara never deviating from her story. At the wake, there was a picture of Kara in that shirt and looking at it was one of the few times I could smile that day. So if you, by chance, run into Kara’s friend Jena, who owns a construction company, please pass along my thanks. | |
