Graduation Caps

I remember graduation day for the Trinity girls in 1999. It was a rainy day in Hartford, Connecticut and Kara was getting ready for the ceremony. Typical of our family, she was running a bit late as we were helping her pack up her stuff as she got ready. Kara dressed in her gown and reached for her cap only to find it missing. She claimed she had placed it on her computer. Kara never lost things like that, she was the organized one of the family. How could she lose something as essential as the cap? It was nowhere to be found though, we searched the room and all the boxes, no cap. With no cap and no more time before the ceremony, Kara grabbed her black rain hat and ran off to line up. So there she was lined up with the Trinity College Class of 1999, everyone looking sharp in the cap and gowns and Kara looking extra special in her rain hat and gown. Only Kara could pull something like that off with such ease, I know I would have handled the situation with many more tears and frustration. But Kara handled it great as she marched along with the other graduates, proud to be protected from the rain by her special rain hat. Four years later, it is time for my college graduation. I have been thinking of Kara constantly as I attend various events with the girls and bring up old memories, just as I know Kara did in the week before her graduation. I have been keeping a close watch on my cap too, you never know where those things can go. (by the way, we still do not know where Kara's cap mysteriously disappeared to!) But just in case, I've got her black rain hat which will do just fine. And I think it might rain tomorrow for graduation anyway! Kara, I miss you like crazy. I wish more than anything that you could be with me tomorrow to watch me walk across the stage. I know you'll watching down on me though. I'll make you proud, Kara. I love you so much. Your sister, the graduate.
