Loyal Fans

When I think back to my friendship with Kara, the time is so full of memories, laughs and experiences, her presence so complete, that I am amazed and thankful for the full gift of my own time with to her. And yet it seems she has been this person, engaging in the most committed and personal friendship, to everyone who was blessed to know her, and to be loved by her. Knowing Kara throughout Trinity meant it was impossible not to get caught up in her energy. We’ve all talked about her love for life and even more, for her ability to make everything fun. We’ve all thought back of our times with Kara and admit that in spite of our loss, it’s been impossible not to laugh. I first met Kara in the winter of our freshman year. As rookies on the Trinity ice hockey team, and by this I mean-the third-line, we stumbled our way across the ice, swinging madly at the puck and believing ourselves to be flying full-speed ahead, with only the walls to stop our momentum. It’s a sport you can take seriously, but that wouldn’t be fun. As center and a right wing positions, we were quite a pair- our enthusiasm for the team was endless, especially those late night practices. But, with NO points under our belt, and legs full of bruises, we moved onto to the bigger and better endeavors. We became fans. What do you do when it’s senior year and ten of your closest friends are leading players on the field hockey team? Kara and I became Robin Shepherd’s shadow running up and down the opposite end of the field, Mr. Love’s echo calling out to the girls, we wore face paint, blue and yellow Ts, we feel left out when we were not invited to team dinners, but of course thankful that we got to go out on Friday night, and we felt pride for every point scored and pain whenever one of friends got hurt ….The entire experience was exciting, and fun, spontaneous, and dedicated…it was all we could give to the people who meant so much to us…the entire experience was Kara. I am so grateful to have been wrapped up and included in that energy. It is because of Kara that I have learned the joy of loving and supporting family and friends. Kara had so many wonderful qualities-so many different qualities. As her friends, we were always surprised and amazed to recognize something new in our friend. And for this reason, there are countless memories circulating amongst all of the people who Kara touched. Thank you for this website as a way to remember; and thank you, Kara for all you have given us. I love and miss you always. Kat
